MALAYSIAN riders will look to hit the ground running when they pair up with new horses for a series of qualifying events in France for the World Endurance Championships for Young Riders and Juniors.

Endurance riders Faris Haikal Hassan Sa’ari, Aimin Azfar Nazulki, Nur Qasrina Amani Zakaria and Yusuf Luqman Zakaria left yesterday to compete in two 120km events in Argentan (July 12-14) and Jullianges (July 18-21).

Team manager Mohamad Din Mat is optimistic of their chances.

The world meet will be held in San Rossore, Italy on Sept 17-18.

“To qualify, we have to compete with the same horses we will be using during the world juniors,” said Mohamad.

“We cannot bring our horses from here, so we have made a deal with some owners in France and will be using their horses.

“We have some very talented riders, so I believe we have a good chance of qualifying. It will also be an important opportunity for our riders to adapt to the horses.”

Qasrina, who was a reserve rider for the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games competition, and Yusuf are siblings.

Mohamad disclosed that the same horses used will be transported to San Rossore should any of the Malaysian riders successfully qualify for the event.
