KUALA LUMPUR: Developing eSports will be part of Media Prima Digital’s (MPD) long-term plan following a partnership with Kitamen, a local eSports company specialising in products and services.

MPD chief executive officer Rafiq Razali said, after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kitamen recently: “We want to support grassroots development, that’s where the university and college students venture into eSports.

“While other media parties focus more on events such as the KL majors, our core focus is to develop eSports, not only as a broadcasting entity but to develop eSports players,” he said.

The one-year MoU with Kitamen will see MPD providing its wide platforms, which include digital television, print and radio, to promote gaming initiatives as well as broadcasting expertise in relation to live streaming services.

Kitamen will also get to utilise Media Prima’s in-house assets and tap into large scale on-ground events such as Karnival Jom Heboh and IPT tournaments.
