KUALA LUMPUR: Previous records don’t matter to national mixed doubles Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, who face World No 2, Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China in their opening Group B tie at the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou which start today.
While the Malaysians have never lost to the China pair in their last two outings, Liu Ying doesn’t believe in relying on past results.
“Thinking about the past will only add more pressure on us. This is a diff tournament where everyone starts from scratch.
“The draw this year looks good but we must be on top of our game too. Our target for now is to clear the group stage and reach the quarter-finals,” said Liu Ying.
Also in Group B are world No 3 Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino of Japan and Indonesia's Hafiz Faizal-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying have not lost to the Japanese pair in their last three outings while they have not played Faizal-Gloria before.
Another Malaysian pair, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie open their Group A campaign against Thai duo, Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai.
Soon Huat-Shevon, however, face a trickier path in reaching the last eight, as they are also in the same group as world No 1 Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong or China and England's Marcus Ellis-Lauren Smith.
