GEORGE TOWN: Some 329 schools and educational institutions in seven states were affected by typhoon Lekima.
A statement issued by the Education Ministry said the losses were estimated at RM20 million.
In Kedah, 115 schools, three quarters complexes, a training institute and two institutions of higher learning were damaged.
In Penang, 101 schools, four quarters, and two training institutes were damaged while 58 schools in Perlis were affected.
A total of 32 schools and an institution of higher learning in Selangor were affected.
In Terengganu, seven schools and a training institute were damaged.
An institution of higher learning in Perak and a school in Pahang were affected.
“We have estimated the damages to be around RM20 million.
“We are taking immediate action to repair the damage by channeling emergency allocations to state Education Departments, district education offices, Polytechnic Education and Community College Department and other agencies.
“This is to enable emergency works to be carried out promptly,” it added.
