PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today experienced the power of 5G technology when he took a ride in an autonomous vehicle and held a conversation with a hologram girl known as Aisyah.
The prime minister was seen excited to take a ride in the driverless blue Proton Exora for about 500m, passing the Palace of Justice to the Putrajaya Corporation Complex.
The autonomous car was developed by Ericsson and Celcom and in partnership with eMooVit, a high-tech start-up.
The multi-purpose vehicle is fitted with an array of cameras, radar and Lidar sensors that enable the car to sense its surroundings.
When the prime minister walked towards the Sri Siantan Hall, he experienced a facial recognition technology to access the hall.
At the launch of 5G Malaysia: Progressing Humanity Programme that was also attended by Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo, Dr Mahathir also had a short conversation with a girl called Aisyah, using a holographic technology.
Aisyah, or her real name Tengku Zara Eryna Tengku Ahmad Saifuddin, is no stranger to Dr Mahathir because she was the same girl appeared in Pakatan Harapan’s general election video clip campaign.
Aisyah referred Dr Mahathir as “Atuk” (grandpa) and asked the prime minister a few questions, including what would the technology be after 5G.
Dr Mahathir in a jest replied: “Teleportation.”
Aisyah also asked: “Atuk, what G technology was it when you were my age?”
“Zero G,” Dr Mahathir answered, drawing laughter from the floor.
