Screen grab from the video shows a red sedan stopped at a red light at an intersection along Jalan Dusun Raja.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Alaskan Malamute is a rare sight even in the most canine-friendly of cities. Its mammoth size makes it a handful for urbanites; and its Siberian tiger-like appearance tends to put the fear of God in city folk – not to mention other dogs.

So when the owner of an Alaskan Malamute recently decided to take his/her behemoth pet for a casual drive in Kota Baru, Kelantan (not exactly known as a dog-oriented town), motorists and passersby were understandably astonished.

A brief video clip of Scooby Doo-on-steroids enjoying a cruise down the streets of Kelantan’s capital – recorded by the bewildered occupant of a passing car – has gone viral on social media, and is good for a laugh.

The footage shows a red sedan stopped at a red light at an intersection along Jalan Dusun Raja. There is nothing remotely unusual about the scene, save for the gargantuan head of an Alaskan Malamute poking out of the rolled-down left back passenger window.

The Hulk-Lassie scans the streets with ease and contentment, unaware it is being filmed by a paparazzo who can’t stop chuckling with awe.

The humungous hound momentarily withdraws its giant noggin, before sticking it back out – just in time to stun a motorcyclist about to pass the car. The poor biker stops with such a start that he nearly reverses; and blurts a profanity in the Kelantan dialect that triggers a burst of laughter from the video-taker.

The monumental mongrel simply stares at the poor fellow, who is now too afraid to even pass the car. Luckily for him, the light quickly turns green and the sedan pulls away with its colossal cargo, which is happily oblivious to the powerful effect it is having on the public.

Good dog!
