SHAH ALAM: Police have detained two men to assist investigation into the murder of a 78-year-old woman in Kampung Tebuk Pulai, Sabak Bernam, yesterday.

The septuagenarian, P Runkanaikey, was hacked to death when five intruders, armed with machetes, stormed into her Kampung Tebuk Pulai home at 4am on Monday. Her grandson N Silamparasan was severely injured in the attack.

According to Bernama, the first suspect, aged 37, was picked up at 7pm the same day while the second, a 45-year-old man, was arrested at 1am today. Both were arrested in Sabak Bernam.

District deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Lim Chee Khoon said police were still looking for the others in the group and expect to make more arrests soon.

"We are still investigating the motive of the attack," he said.

Yesterday, police said initial investigation revealed that none of the victim’s valuables such as wallet, gold chain and a four-wheel- drive vehicle were taken in the incident.

Runkanaikey died of multiple wounds sustained on her head, right arm, left hand and left knee.

Silamparasan sustained multiple injuries on his arm, thigh and left calf as well as on the sole of his right foot.

The attackers were said to have fled in a grey Toyota Vios.
