BUTTERWORTH: A resident of Tanah Wakaf Abdul Cauder pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to a policeman to deter the public servant from discharging his duty during a demolition exercise last week.

Syazwan Sulaiman, 30, who is Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) sub-contractor, was charged with committing the offence on Lance Corporal Muhammad Aliff A. Rahman in front of house No 3104 Jalan Mengkuang here at 1.10pm last March 7.

The charge, under Section 332 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to three years, or fine, or both, if found guilty.

Magistrate Che Rohana Ismail allowed Syazwan, represented by lawyer Ahmad Faris Khairudin and Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail, bail of RM3,000 in one surety.

She also set April 19 for mention.
