KLANG: Police believed they have arrested a serial shoplifter, responsible for stealing beer and cigarettes at several convenience stores in Klang Valley.

The 26-year-old suspect, a managing director of a company, was nabbed less than 24 hours after he allegedly hit four convenience stores on Thursday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said police got their break on the man's activity after receiving a report from a convenience store in Taman Melawati.

"The suspect was spotted stealing several cans of beer at the Taman Melawati outlet about 2am. He was seen driving off in a Nissan Almera.

"Our team, upon receiving the report, went on a patrol and spotted the vehicle near Persiaran Batu Nilam, here, at 5.15am.

"They later found six bottles of liquor, 37 cans of beer and 31 boxes of cigarettes in the car.

"He also admitted to hitting four outlets that day," he said.

Shamsul added that checks showed the suspect, who has been remanded for four days, has no previous criminal record.
