KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s new vehicle sales dropped 25.73 per cent to 50,853 units in July from the 68,466 units recorded in the same month a year ago.
The Malaysian Automotive Association said the lower sales were due to the absence of zero rate Goods and Services Tax.
On a month-on-month basis, however, the sale volume was 19.5 per cent or 8,327 units higher than June due to a longer working month.
MAA expects the sales volume for August to be maintained at the July level.
Year to date (YTD), new vehicles sales eased 3.04 per cent to 347,187 units from 358,065 units posted in the same corresponding period a year ago.
Meanwhile, the production of new vehicles went down 11.33 per cent to 48,912 units from 55,164 units recorded in the same month in 2018.
YTD production volume of new vehicles dropped 0.65 per cent to 333,940 units from 336,111 units a year ago.
